Case Study

The Hub Emerald: a booking flow as calm as the space itself

The Hub Emerald is a co-working and business hub in Emerald, Central Queensland: flexible desks, private offices and meeting rooms for a growing regional business community. The site's job was to make booking a room feel as easy as the physical space is to use.

01 /The Challenge

A co-working hub lives or dies on how quickly someone can check availability and book a room. If that takes more than a couple of clicks, a business owner just phones instead, which defeats the point of having a site at all. The Hub Emerald needed a booking flow genuinely fast enough to replace a phone call, for a regional audience that's often comparing it to co-working options in Rockhampton or Brisbane, not judging it in isolation. A slow or confusing booking flow doesn't just lose a sale here: it sends the visitor straight to the phone, which means the website has failed at its one measurable job.

The site also had to represent a physical space online (light, airy, communal) without the usual coworking space website trap of stock photography that could belong to any hub in any city. Complicating that further, The Hub Emerald doesn't just sell desks: its own positioning spans lifestyle, corporate and entertainment offerings, which meant the site had to organise three fairly different visitor intents on one clear structure.

02 /Our Approach

Echo Technology built the booking flow first and worked backwards from it: every other section on the site exists to get a visitor to that flow with enough confidence to complete it, rather than browsing indefinitely.

Room and desk listings use photography of the actual Hub Emerald space rather than co-working stock imagery, reinforcing that this is a real, physical business community in Emerald rather than a franchise template.

Grid-based layout mirrors the hub's own floor-plan logic: desks, offices and meeting rooms presented as distinct, comparable options rather than folded into one generic "workspace" pitch, with the lifestyle and entertainment side of the business given its own clear section rather than being squeezed into the same grid.

03 /Design Notes

The design is light and grid-driven, mirroring the physical hub's own layout: generous whitespace stands in for the openness of the actual space, and warm photography does work stock imagery can't.

Small interaction details (a room card lifting slightly on hover, a booking button that responds immediately rather than sitting on a loading state) keep the booking flow feeling quick without needing flashy transitions to prove it. None of the motion is decorative for its own sake; every hover state exists to reassure a visitor mid-booking that the click registered.

04 /Tech Stack

  • Next.js
  • React
  • TypeScript
  • Tailwind CSS
  • Vercel

05 /The Outcome

The result is a co-working space website that treats booking as the primary task rather than an afterthought bolted onto a brochure site. Visitors can check a room and commit to it in the same visit, which is what a coworking space business actually needs from its website.

For a co-working business in Central Queensland, it's also a genuinely custom web design project rather than a directory listing or an off-the-shelf booking platform with the branding stripped out. The site gives The Hub Emerald a single home for its desk, office and event offerings that reads as one coherent business rather than three loosely related services sharing a building.
